Pointscore
results
The pointscore has been removed from the site due to the final
months being upon us. Better to keep people in the dark a little
so the winners on the night are a bit of a surprise |
|
Slight changes
to some of the rules this year. Please review them so you are prepared
for any eventualities. We'll be posting the first pointscore results
asap.
Pointscore
Rules and Member Responsibilities
• Membership
must be paid by June. Points will cease being accumulated until membership
is paid. Existing membership costs $30 and new memberships cost $40.
• Heats will start at 7.30. Please arrive prior to this time
to help set up, sign up to your division through the marshal, and
facilitate getting the heats in the water on time.
• One committee member will act as the marshal responsible for
the heat draw for the pointscore. All issues are to be directed through
this person. The marshal is the only one who can alter the heat draws.
• All competitors must be signed up by 8am or entry will be
refused. If members can’t sign up in person they must phone
in so the draw can be completed.
• Heats will always be random unless an imminent tie for first
place is apparent, in which a head-to-head or special heat involving
the tied parties will be run.
• All competitors must wear rash vests when in a heat.
• Heats will generally be 25 minutes long unless conditions
and numbers dictate otherwise. Any changes on the day will be communicated
to members present through a committee member.
• Competitors can paddle out with 5 minutes remaining in the
heat prior.
• Competitors must take off within the competition area designated
by the flags.
• First competitor to their feet has right of way on the wave.
Dropping in when another competitor has distinct priority will be
penalised. A penalised wave is to be triangle ( ) and that competitors
highest score will be halved.
• No free-surfing is to be done inside the competition area.
Free-surfing within the competition area will result in forfeiting
half of the points scored on that day.
• Unless judging or on official duties, all competitors are
to stay out of the judging tent.
• Members should rotate judging and each member should try to
judge at least one heat a day. This is an honesty system.
• The lowest 2 monthly scores will be dropped from the final
pointscore tally for the year.
Judging
Criteria:
The PKBR are a
social club and we are grateful for all of those guys who chip in
and judge between their own heats. We know and expect some degree
of difference between scores during a heat and certainly between separate
heats as judging is a very subjective task.
To help wth this we decided to adopt the ASP World tour judging criteria
as a guideline for those who volunteer their time. Through this we
hope those of you who help become more confident in your judging,
plus it would be great to see some more guys put their hands up during
the pointscore and help out.
Judges analyze
the following major elements when scoring waves:
- Commitment
and Degree of Difficulty
- Innovative
and Progressive Manoeuvres
- Combination
of Major Manoeuvres
- Variety of
Manoeuvres
- Speed, Power
and Flow
Surfers must perform
to these Judging Key Elements to maximize their scoring potential.
It is important
to note that the emphasis on certain elements is contingent upon the
location and the conditions on the day, as well as changes of conditions
during the day.
